Our analysis of data presented in an April 21, 2019 post on the prepscholar blog discloses that while only 67 colleges require completion of the ACT Writing Section, another 408 colleges that it be completed.

Consider, for a moment, applying for a job and not doing something that the prospective employer recommends that you do.

So, while we’ll grant that the number of colleges that require completion of the ACT Writing or the SAT Essay is a very small percentage of the total number of colleges, 18 appears to be significantly too low.

The identity of the author of that blog won’t be disclosed in this post for reasons that you may infer from what we have to say about his post, his facts, and his conclusions.According to the College Board, the essay portion of the writing section counts for about 30 percent of the total writing score. in publishing, Allie Benjamin continues to write and edit educational content for various platforms. Refer to College Board's "Getting Ready for the SAT" booklet for the official conversion chart showing the relationship between the essay score and multiple-choice writing section score. Give them a call if the school website doesn’t answer your question. And if there’s the slightest doubt about to what schools you might be applying, do the safe thing by completing the SAT or ACT essay.“The essay/writing section can be a barrier to under-resourced applicants who are unable to take that portion of the SAT or ACT either due to the higher cost or because some states do not give a version of those tests that includes that section.” We're a student-run organization committed to providing hands-on experience in journalism, digital media and business for the next generation of reporters.Your support makes a difference in helping give staff members from all backgrounds the opportunity to develop important professional skills and conduct meaningful reporting.
