Poster sessions are particularly prominent at scientific conferences such as medical and engineering congresses.
To participate in a poster session, an abstract is submitted to the academic or professional society for consideration and on occasion may include peer-reviewed material qualified for journal publication.
For medical congresses, where posters regularly include high resolution images of case presentations, immunostaining, and surgical techniques, digital posters are incapable of displaying the necessary level of detail even on very large monitors.
Collections of digital posters can successfully be viewed on desktop monitors with sufficient resolution and pixel density.
You should be prepared to answer questions and to explain your project one-on-one frequently throughout the poster session.
An effective poster: Before you design your poster, determine what you want to include in your poster. How do you convey these points to audience members who may each only have a few minutes to look at your poster? You don’t want to paste entire sections of a research paper onto a poster; this will overwhelm viewers.A research poster is an organized visual display of your research project.Typically, you present your poster in a poster session at a conference or seminar. This provides a means for academic and professional societies to create digital archives of current and past poster sessions. The other challenge with digital poster sessions is the logistics of presenting hundreds, if not thousands, of posters on a limited number of monitors. However, the resolution of a 47” monitor is only 48 pixels per inch at Full HD (1920x1080) and 96 pixels per inch at Ultra HD (3840x2160).Large format printers, on the other hand, output at 600dpi and higher. With the traditional printed poster session, attendees can spend as much, or as little, time at each poster depending on interest, and the posters are continuously on display. They can interact with authors and discuss the research without time constraints. Thanks to all the participants and volunteers for making Research and Scholarship Days 2019 a success. The dates for 2020 have not yet been selected, but will be posted here as soon as that information is available.
